Re: Tube Strike
They normally do a shuttle service stopping at Leytonstone and then onto Epping when the RMT throw their toys out of the pram so hopefully they'll do the same now Aslef and crying about not being given respect ... I think there is another strike in September as well

Re: Tube Strike
LBC are saying that there will be some kind of shuttle service from Epping to Liverpool Street , which is something I suppose.......

Both sides are still a bunch of c**ts mind.

Re: Tube Strike
The new General Secretary of the RMT will be announced towards the end of September. I expect new threats of strike action to follow soon after.

Re: Tube Strike
I absolutely agree that ATO is the most efficient way to operate. But that alone is not enough to run the system without a member of staff aboard.

On some platforms you might be able to get platform staff to close doors, but not all. What happens if those doors come open between platforms?

Safety will always be the company's first priority and unless they fill.up the tunnels and start again there won't be crewless trains.

Jubilee line was down between Waterloo and Finchley Road during rush hour this morning - made getting into Westminster great fun...

Re: Tube Strike
Bernie

That's why I mentioned the dlr you know yourself that running in ATO is the most effective way to operate the system

Do door timings with sensors or platform staff for half the pay closing the doors

Technology is there not the will to do it , and truthfully would hate to see anyone lose their job

Re: Tube Strike
Balders,

For that to happen would require new rolling stock.

LU have stated that by the 'end of the 2030's' there will be new stock on the Central, Bakerloo, Piccadilly and Waterloo and City.

This stock may or may not have a driving cab.

So for the next 20 odd years there is still going to be a driver/operator on the front of most of the lines.

Driverless is coming, not to sack all the drivers, but to virtually eliminate driver error, improve running time, eliminate signals, improve reliability.

As the network is 150 years old it isn't suitable.to operate without a member of staff aboard. For strikes to stop, the law around striking or the unions themselves need to be eradicated.

Re: Tube Strike
Wasn't the victoria line the first driverless route in the world?

balders 11:10 Thu Aug 21
Re: Tube Strike
Siemens system also allows it if they or Thales get SSR

balders 11:09 Thu Aug 21
Re: Tube Strike
Bernie

The seltrac system with a few mods on board and some VCC data updates will allow driverless trains

Thales have this working in other countries successfully

It won't happen till vehicle reliability improves and the rail regulator grows some bollocks but it is possible

Re: Tube Strike
I thought the Jubilee and Central could go automatic driverless and maybe even the Victoria?

Re: Tube Strike
Balders,

I'd love to know how exactly the northern line could go driverless tomorrow.

I'm a northern line train operator you see so would be intrigued to what you know that i don't.

London Underground will NEVER be able to run staffless trains on existing lines. So people who think that when they go driverless there won't be anymore strikes are wishful thinking.

The best you can hope for is a lower paid member of staff aboard, like the DLR, but those guys only get about £5k less as it is.

Central line? Wankers. Thats my route into work.

Re: Tube Strike
Thanks balders, yeah I knew some lines were moving block as I'm a bit of a train geek myself

balders 10:54 Thu Aug 21
Re: Tube Strike
Cough they are just operators now

CBTC is non signalled it's moving block anyway the operator is there for failures only

Can get geeky but can't be bothered , there are really no need for drivers apart from train failures and public reservations on driverless trains

Far Cough 10:48 Thu Aug 21
Re: Tube Strike
Signal operators?

Aren't the signals all automatic?
